Technology: Laser Surface Processing

Processing that removes the surface of the material itself and forms it in three dimensions has also been realized!

When it comes to lasers, the impression may be strongly associated with marking. Laser marking involves rapidly scanning a laser beam across the surface of a material by changing the angle of a galvanometer mirror to print on it. At Lasax, we perform marking on special materials such as wood and acrylic using CO2 lasers. By applying processing techniques that utilize such galvanometer mirrors, we have also achieved laser cleaning to remove dirt, paint, and oxide films adhered to surfaces, as well as processing that removes the surface of the material itself to form three-dimensional shapes. In both types of processing, a pulsed laser that generates very short pulse widths in the microsecond or nanosecond range is used to instantly evaporate the material. Additionally, in polymer materials such as resins, by irradiating lasers with short wavelengths like YAG lasers, a photochemical reaction occurs where the bonds between atoms or molecules are broken and evaporated instantly, which is referred to as ablation. For laser cleaning, removal, and other surface processing, please leave it to Lasax. For more details, please contact us or refer to our catalog.

Laser surface processing for extrusion molding dies

LIPSS processing was performed on an S45C extrusion molding die using an IR laser.

We processed a nano-periodic structure with a 900nm pitch on the inner lip surface used in tube molding, etc., using an ultra-short pulse laser. The structural color unique to LIPSS processing is manifested in the tubular part of the mold tip.
